Clogged Toilets
Clogged toilets can sometimes be simple to fix. If you flush the toilet and the water starts to over flow, DO NOT FLUSH again! You should quickly remove the tank lid and push the tank ball down to close the flush valve.
A clogged toilet means there is a blockage in the toilet or drain line. If the bathroom sink is also backed up you will know the clog is in the drain line. If there are other drains in the house that are backing up, the problem is most likely in the sewer line. The best thing to do in that case is call a plumber.
If you can see something lodged in your toilet put on some rubber gloves and remove the items. Most toilet clogs are caused by plastic items, sanitary products and small toys that physically clog the toilet pipes.
Next try to unclog the toilet using a plunger. A plunger works best when the toilet has water in the bowl, but not completely full. Put the plunger in the toilet bowl and completely cover the toilet drain opening. With the plunger head under water, press and pump it quickly for 20 seconds. If the toilet unclogs the water should drain to its normal level and stay there.
If the clog persists you should call a plumbing professional.
